Montreal 1984, Photos: Jardin Chez Josephine Sberna’s garden on Drolet

These photos mark the first time I visited the home of Josephine Sberna, who became a dear friend. She is in the upper left of the garden, as seen from the stairs. I find it so hard to print some of these photos as they captures such an innocent, happy moment- when we were blissfully and thankfully unaware of what destinies would befall us. Sweet, charming, wonderful Josephine, who would be murdered by an ex boyfriend 9 years later in Montreal. It still hurts- I will never get over the horror of her death- or that the man who did it was rumoured to have avoided prison even though he was identified while withdrawing money from her ATM bank account. Her mother however was told that the man who killed Josephine received 8 years- and has asked me to verify this.

In 2007 I finally had a chance to visit her family grave in Marignane, France, where she was born and is now buried.
