Andy was gracious and sweet. Not many musicians would come off a set, and then pose so patiently for a young photography student.

Suzanne Malouk later moved to NYC, where she met and married the painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. I photographed Suzanne several times in Toronto back in 78/79. She was a unique, beautiful subject and I well can understand why Basquiat chose her as his muse. I photographed her by chance backstage with XTC, and then arranged to make 4 by 5 (large format negative) portraits of her, merging with and crawling out of metal tubing in a construction site. She had inherited from her mother an incredible collection of clothes, dating to the London Carnaby St. scene of the 60s.

(Luck has it- mine preferred Marks and Sparks) While Suzanne prepared for our shoot, she applied white face make-up and smeared dark circles beneath her eyes. "Do I look sick? I want to look sick!," she exclaimed, decades before the fashion scene figured this out for themselves. Suzanne was a punk trailblazer, and unforgettable.
